TOP 10 WAYS TO CO-EXIST WITH NORTHSTAR BEARS…

  • Bears are attracted to garbage, barbecues, and any food or cosmetic odors in homes and cars.
  • Clean barbecues; cover outside or store inside between uses.
  • Don't feed pets outdoors and store pet food in secure containers indoors.
  • Secure garage doors, storage sheds, and residences so bears cannot enter.
  • Do not put birdfeeders out in yards or decks.
  • Spoil the food in garbage cans with bleach, ammonia, or Pinesol.
  • Separate wet garbage and keep in airtight container with lid. Double-bag smelly items.
  • Garbage collection day is Monday. If you are leaving before then, take your garbage to the dumpsters and secure the chains.
  • After garbage is collected on Monday, secure can indoors.
  • If dumpsters are full, take your garbage with you.

Do not feed wildlife.
It is illegal to intentionally feed big game animals (Section 251.3 CA Code of Regulations).
